Word Quiz

FEBRY - Answers

1. A bundle or burden. An old gospel song might ask “Who will all our fardels bear?”

2. A mournful poem or song. Gray’s “Elegy” is one of our best-known poems.

3. It’s a poisonous plant of the nightshade family. The name means “beautiful lady,” and comes from the fact that women used it to dilate their eyes, supposedly increasing their appeal. (The tomato is from the same family, and was long considered poisonous.)

4. Entertain and delight. They regaled their guests with excellent food, choice wine, and delightful conversation.

5. Ready to sail (or, when not referring to a ship, ready to do its job). The shipbuilder pointed to the new boat and said, “She’s thar, and she’s yar.”
