1. Arrogance and pride, disrespect (from French caballārius, man on horseback). His cavalier attitude toward local problems caused resentment among the citizens.

2. Saints and their lives (from Greek hagios, meaning saint or sacred). The sisters of that order are known for their works of hagiography.

3. Immolation (from Latin immolātiōn, sacrifice) involves sacrifice, often by putting to death. The world was horrified when the monks began immolating themselves by fire.

4. Lubricious (from Latin lubricus, slippery) means sexually stimulating, arousing. Leonard loved leafing through lubricious literature.

5. Loess (from German losch, loose) is a windblown deposit of loamy soil. Some Mississippi farmers may wish for less loess.
